ADORO IL GENIO - GPS

A volte il e nel telefono possono essere davvero utili.
A volte.

You either have to be a very spectator friendly sport, or know which palms to grease at the IOC. Ask anyone at the International Federation.

If you can't run through forests in Finland, Scotland is a very seriously good alternative.

Most of my controls were "not optimal"

Final features of Control Club are done: Comparing a route from a feed to your own and commenting! Feels pretty good now. But there are bugs, lots of them... Still release in about 2 weeks is realistic!

I think I'm pretty okay with being called a "young nerd" by John Oliver in his last episode when talking about

Morning line at O-ringen.

Happy participants a few seconds before the mass start to the special "baby fox" challenge. Meeting friends from Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Germany in Maasmechelen.

The world's most exclusive keep out sign. The tape in Edinburgh's Canongate was to close off an illegal shortcut in the World Championship knock out sprint final. It applied to just 12 elite athletes.

Track and field: A carpet, an oval
The Dark Side. City streets, offices, runners colliding and a sheep.

An athletic World Championship, top class competition, far more exciting than running around in circles, in a scenic capital city

Yet a total media black out. Dark athletics

Orienteering

Go go go Finland!

There is a World Championships in an athletic discipline taking place in Edinburgh right now.

News blackout. Oooh maps, scary!

Starting on Friday, it is the World Orienteering Championships being held in and around Edinburgh featuring 250 athletes from 45 different nations. This year it is purely sprint orienteering - fast paced urban races. Britain is actually quite good at Sprint Orienteering, with the Women's World Champion defending her title on home turf. You can watch it live for free on Eurovision Sport

I made a press kit! Take a look:

Also if you know any journalists or someone who could use this in some publication, please share!

Last day of World Youth Championships in Moldova

59 girls and boys up to 16 years take part in the competitions. Sadly, teams from Czech Republic and Russia are missing.

For someone like me with no geo background, is daunting but to create contours from in for maps I just followed some easy steps:
1 Open DEM file (.tif) in QGIS
2 Install extension "Generalizer"
3 Raster -> Extraction -> Contour (I chose 1,25 as interval between lines) -> Run
4 Select new layer (Contour): Vector -> Generalizer -> "Boyle's Forward..."
5 Save new layer (Contour Memory) as GeoJson and import into OOMapper

This still needs commenting. And route comparison. Commenting is easy, that might come soon. But route comparison is still not done for Android....

Ok here we are now: I can publish courses to brand new Control Club, view other people's courses and react! . Next up is beta testing...

Yippie, in , including dem and dsm! Quantum leap for with and oomapper.

Google Maps: Head southeast.
Me: Bold of you to assume that I have any idea how to locate southeast, given that you're the thing which is destroying my remaining ability to read maps at all.

I thought I was not so bad with map... Until yesterday :D Dense wood seems to be pushing to another level. I turned 4.4 km track into an 8.2 km and done it in 2h17m

But to my surprise, there were still three people slower than me.

I enjoyed it anyway. Glad to try something new. Next time I should pay more attention to the map and train keeping azimuth.

Very entertaining again to watch world cup in on television

Surprising results, too (at least for me)

Todays run. 6.85km in almost 90 minutes :D

OK, my running capabilities are trash as they have always been, but at least I haven't done any major mistake in orienteering. (In my opinion of course).

Thanks to the person from who has purchased a with one of our designs.

Enjoy it and thank you very much for your support!

Also wrote some words about this update:

Finally got the new Control app update out this week. I now have user accounts and Android users can even sync their courses to our cloud service. What a huge undertaking this has been. But still this is only the half way. Next: users will be able to follow other users and post their courses for everybody to see & compare. Hoping to get beta out in 1 month

A little spring this evening at Mt Misery. Better than the name suggested.

Lprapport frn i Nynshamn uppe p bloggen.

Kartan ver hur jag sprang i lrdags p , r ganska njd.

Inte van vid "Stockholmsorientering" dr den strsta svrigheten r att hitta kontrollpunkten men dr vgvalen r relativt ltta.

what is it with websites and only giving locations in proprietary systems. of all people I'd expect orienteers to be giving good locations

I don't want your post code I can only use in closed programs that have paid Royal Mail too much money, nor your what3words I have to sign up with some company to have them decode. Both require an internet connection.

OS Grid references are good, though I'm unaware of map programs that can use them.

why why not just give a lat & long (you can even geo: URI it but I don't expect people to know that)

and then they throw some Google Maps short URL at you like they aren't people who obsess over good maps! useless!

Ngon som ska springa i helgen

Everyone really enjoyed the course I planned!

I'm really glad as I felt it'd been stunted by the necessary alterations due to changes & flooding in the forest, and the last-minute cut of two controls by one of the club organisers.

Genuine praise & thanks from many friendly old people I didn't know, naturally one snuck a "we need more young planners like you" in there

This has required a lot of work. Still not 100% done. Will continue testing and hoping to finish this week...

This will land first on Android. iOS users have had the iCloud syncing already many years but this will enable us to sync courses across Android-Apple devices. First we'll enable it only for Android though. Also subscription sharing will become A LOT easier: You just sign in with your account on all your shared devices.

I am prepping up the next release of Control for Android. Maybe next week... Will be huge. And the next step towards the even more huge feature of 2024. First, we'll introduce Control user account. Then we'll introduce the ability to sync your courses across the devices.
