I have early onset DOMS from compassSport cup final yesterday, but I think that's more about the time driving than the time in the race. South Gare is challenging: the intricacy of dune area or moraine-made-from-industrial-waste, but with the reassuring firmness underfoot of blancmange mixed with barbed wire and snails.

run was wet...
I ended up 15/22 Next time I should think less and run more...

Sounds interesting, but my DuckDuckGo skills were inadequate to find out what is. If you like hunting for things in London, you might like the London City Race weekend in Greenwich and Rotherhithe next weekend

Before the MapRun prize-giving the other day, there was a fun exercise to draw some GPS art with one mandatory location to visit besides the start/finish. Here's what I drew by guesswork. Bonus points to residents who know where this is

I got a lovely drinking vessel for winning the summer MapRun league in and around .

If you'd like to try out this sort of thing (smartphone orienteering at your own convenience) take a look at to find courses in your area (if you are in the UK). The courses I did are still available, so feel free to try to beat me!

Eoc tour in Geel last week. is fun. I discovered that this year and it is my new hobby.

Orienteering

Am very disappointed to be missing Myrsyran by 1 day, its the logical conflux of my passion for stupid races, getting wet and cold, mud, being in the far north, breaking my self, and smelling nature. What is this thing Its Sweden's slowest half marathon: "21km sten, myr, stig, obanad skog och vatten" - 21km of rocks, marsh, rough forest, and water. Love it.

Going from to today for the British Sprint Championships and we're staying overnight. The hotel is booked through booking.com and it's very keen to upsell flights "from 1449". So I clicked through and they are recommending I drive to Heathrow (further than Norwich), fly to Schiphol, sit about for over 3 hours and then fly to Norwich to arrive around 22:30. Return cost for the two of us is 3293

It's almost time for a weekend of East Anglia-based fun!

Night FTW at the White Rose Weekend in Dalby Forest, North Yorkshire

Today is the Foxoring competition. This competition is the one most similar to traditional : The approximate locations of the low-power transmitters are marked on the orienteering map. But to find the actual location, competitors must use the 3.5 MHz receiver.
The competition starts at 10.00 AM local time (Lithuania, 7.00 UTC).

In the last bulletin for the World MTB Orienteering Championships large areas of the map had been masked within the PDF.

An anonymous person reported that one could simply remove the mask and see large parts of the map intended for the competition.

I still pop in to YouTube on occasion and there's a guy I really enjoy. Technically, its orienteering skills channel and in that regard it has good content. But I watch it mostly because it enjoy it when he "waffles on", i.e. goes of on a tangent. He often turns these waffles into their own video. Today's gem "How to put a hat on", . Look for the waffle withing the waffle about 3 minutes in. Enjoy

Tuesday sees the final park O in the London summer series. Clapham Common, so not far from me. Will local knowledge help me to level up my fairly lamentable results in the previous races I hope so, but at the end of the day it's all been fun. Happy to have rediscovered this sport after 45 years.

On our way to O-ringen. first longer trip with our new Kia EV6 and also pulling our carvan.

Charging snd coffee time.

At recent weekend events there were bottles of water at the finish because of the heat. Today's race in Lincoln was sponsored by Walkers, so there were boxes of crisps instead. Not quite as thirst-quenching

According to my , I'm not in peak condition for the race in Lincoln today

Having a bit of an jolly this weekend in the . Staying in ready for the city race tomorrow after running in earlier. The 12 final controls on a 1:2000 map was novel

Well I'm not getting any better at this Lanequest malarkey in terms of planning any kind of high point-scoring route, but it's been a good excuse to ride new lanes each and every week.

I'm immensely proud of the West Anglian Orienteering Club (WAOC) junior squad for winning the national inter-club junior final yesterday. As club chairman, I have to pay tribute to the current captain, junior captain and coaches, but this has been a long time in the making, so all previous chairs, captains and coaches must also be thanked.

Go WAOC!

A second attempt at Lanequest this evening. Planned to get 21 controls. Ended up with 18. But then was so late back (11 minutes, thanks amongst other excuses to a dropping chain) that I think Ill effectively have lost 4 of those.

Something new this evening: Lanequest, which is a local series. Made some rookie errors in route choice, but did ok, made it back with a minute to spare, and it was a fun way to spend a couple of hours working head and legs.

I'm East Anglian champion for the 2nd year running!

Going to be a hot East Anglian Championships race today. I'm hoping for a lot of tree cover overhead. Luckily my watch claims I'm in prime condition and ready for action

Wednesday night's punt was fun. Pretty unique to too (they do canoe orienteering in York - that's probably not quite as social though)

Go out as a solo or duo team, during 6 hours in search of as many checkpoints as possible.

All checkpoints are marked on a topographic map. Every checkpoint found contributes to your score in the final ranking. Along the way, you run or hike along trails of your own choice.

This was yesterday, 6 hours of fun. And afterwards we got a medaille, life is better while orienteering.
